HISTORY
'Dolphins
take to the water'
Havering
Dolphins Swimming Club was formed by Bill Dyer, Lynette Dyer and Julie
Barnes in June 1999. The Dolphins were granted official affiliation to the
national Amateur Swimming Association on 22nd October 1999.
Both Bill and Lynette who were very much part of the Killerwhales'
successes, now headed the Dolphins' coaching line-up.
On
formation, local press coverage concerning the formation of the Dolphins
had Julie Barnes quoted as saying "Our club will put swimmers first. We aim to be the biggest and best club in the
area in the coming years. "We've only got around 20 swimmers so far
but now we've got the go-ahead to compete we expect a lot more to join.
"It'll take a couple of months to build up a squad and our first
competitions will probably be in January."
Now
three years on, the club boasts the Scottish National Champion, National
level swimmers and the Learn-to-Swim and Development section of the club
has grown to 100+ members.

OUR MISSION
Mission:
-
To promote an interest in swimming and water safety
-
To teach competitive swimming
-
To
improve the standards of competitive swimming
-
To promote and participate in competitions
-
Provide
a guided discovery into swimming
-
To
encourage each swimmer to develop to their full potential and best
abilities.
Aim:
Havering
Dolphins are a friendly and fun club. Our Learn-to-Swim and Development
sections have been running for a number of years and our fun approach to
teaching the children helps them to gain self confidence in the water
quickly. Our aim is to make learning to swim less of an ordeal and more
enjoyable. Many of our beginners progress through our development section
into the training squads. The
coaching staff are all ex-competitive swimmers who understand what the
children go through from learning to swim to the arduous training
schedules to become top class national swimmers and the dedication to the
sport that is required. Working on physical and mental fitness every
swimmer will be treated as an individual, coached to their own
limitations. Our
aim in future years is to be the biggest and most successful club in the
Southeast. As with any sport it is important that the swimmers enjoy the
training to allow them to achieve their own personal goals and ambitions.
The club would welcome the opportunity to teach your child to swim or to
help them develop to the best of their abilities.
Havering Dolphins
endeavours at all times to follow the ASA
Child Protection Guidelines
